The markets ended near day's high on the back of heavy buying seen in scrips across sectors. The rally was led by realty, power, metal and banking stocks. Global cues have been very supportive today as Asia ended strong following another day of gains on Wall Street. Broader markets also ended higher in line with frontline counters. BSE midcap and smallcap index closed higher inline with the fronliners. Market breadth was also very encouraging but the volumes were a disappointment.
Sensex was up 817.49 points or 4.82% at 17766.63, and the Nifty up 272.55 points or 5.53% at 5202.00.
About 2139 shares have advanced, 826 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,452.72 up 5%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,407.76 up 4%.
The BSE Bankex was up 4.6% at 10,614.09. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 16,282.17 up 8%. Suzlon, Reliance Infra, Siemens, Triveni Engineering closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,689.41 up 3%. Tube Investment, Apollo Tyres, Escorts, Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 15,621.89 up 6%. JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hind Zinc closed higher
The BSE FMCG Index closed up 3% at 2,169.50. Colgate, ITC, Nestle, Dabur ended higher
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,932.36 up 7%. BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Reliance Natura, GAIL ended higher.
The BSE IT Index was at 3,843.50 up 1%. HCL, Infosys, Tech mahindra, TCS, Tech Mahindra closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 13507.06 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37973.36 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5717.81 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 57198.23 crore.

Mkts open with huge gap up; energy, cap goods up
The markets opened with huge gap up today on the back of strong cues from the global markets. Asian markets are trading strong with substantial gains following surge in US markets yesterday. Oil & gas, metal, capital goods and telecom stocks surged in opening trade.
At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 556 points at 17505 and Nifty was up 134 points at 5063. Major gainers in the opening trade were Reliance, Rel Comm, RPL, NTPC, SAIL, BHEL, Reliance Energy, Unitech, Hindalco, Tata Power and Suzlon.
Asian markets were trading higher. Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 3.05% or 706.66 points at 23,876.21. Japan's Nikkei shot up 2.79% or 364.74 points at 13,433.04. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 2.93% or 221.52 points at 7,772.07. Singapore's Straits Times advanced 2.91% or 85.77 points at 3,035.31. South Korea's Seoul Composite gained 2.55% or 41.62 points at 1,673.40.
US market: The Dow gained 178.83 points, or 1.45%, to 12,552.24. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 18.35 points, or 1.36%, to 1,367.21, and the Nasdaq composite advanced 53.89 points, or 2.32%, to 2,373.93.
Market cues:

* MFs net sell Rs 98.4 crore in equity
* NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 660 crore at Rs 67,280 crore
